Father of two daughters, Juliet and Ana, he first worked on the TSS Earnslaw in 1989 after transferring from Fiordland Travel's Milford Sound operation.
After leaving Fiordland Travel in May 1990, he gained his commercial launch masters ticket, but mainly worked in hotels around Queenstown.
In 1995 he brought and managed an art gallery until 1997 when he returned as a deckhand on the TSS Earnslaw.
It was during this time that he saw the need for an informative booklet/souvenir and the first edition was published in December 1999.
Malcolm still works part time on the TSS Earnslaw and hopes that this revised edition continues to give the right mix of light material and information for tourists and steam enthusiasts alike.
